I did enjoy this book about Nellie Taft. It was not as interesting as this author's book on Florence Harding but then Florence Harding just was a more interesting individual than Nellie Taft.

Unfortunately, Nellie also had her stroke after being First Lady for only a brief time/5. Nellie Taft is the story of a self-confident, progressive (liberal), world traveling modern woman in an age where such behavior was much more groundbreaking than say Eleanor Roosevelt (who Nellie liked) or today's Hillary Clinton.

In fact in a different age and time it is not hard to speculate that Nellie Taft might held office in her own right/5(23). Taft was a middling president and big business called him the “sugarplum president”. The book provides a fascinating look into the complex personalities and the role of women in the early twentieth century.

Nellie trained to be a teacher and was a French teacher. Nellie spoke German, Spanish and French as well as Latin and Greek.4/5(23). Ever wish that you could find crazy cute clothes that are made right in the USA.

Your wish is our command because we picked these out just for you. Here you'll find everything Nellie Taft has. From cutie tops, trendy skirts, and more -- plus, it's all made in America and we are darn proud of it. On the morning of William Howard Taft's inauguration, Nellie Taft publicly expressed that theirs would be a joint presidency by shattering precedent and demanding that she ride alongside her husband down Pennsylvania Avenue, a tradition previously held for the outgoing president.

At her order, the Agriculture Department began uprooting all available cherry blossom trees they could quickly find, sending them to Washington. Nellie Taft, writes presidential historian/biographer Anthony (The Kennedy White House, etc.), the wife of Republican stalwart William Howard Taft, initially exercised political power as first among equals in her Cincinnati crowd/5(5).

Nellie never liked Teddy Roosevelt's wife, and she told her husband in that TR would turn on him--as of course he did. The book is written from the Taft viewpoint and so Nellie comes out looking pretty good--though she was imperious and quite demanding and gave her husband a hard time often/5(5).
